Like the Beatles put so simply, “...I get by with a little help from my friends…”

The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and our concerts could not exist without the support from our many friends. If you enjoy the music that you are hearing, show your support by getting involved.

We greatly appreciate any gifts of your time, your business, your financial support and of course your own musical skills!

Play your part…volunteer with the SSO!

The beautiful music of Maestro Sawa and the SSO could not happen without our team of dedicated volunteers. From taking tickets to taking in our out-of-town musicians, or setting up the stage to setting up fundraisers, your help is vital to the success of the SSO. The best part is, volunteering has been proven to give you a sense of well-being, boost self-esteem, and it’s a great way to meet new people who love music as much as you do.

How you can contribute.

BINGO RUNNER

2 ½ hours per service

If you are quick on your feet and have a great ‘outdoor’ voice, this fun volunteer position is for you. Bingos in support of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra are held once a week. You will be paired with 1 or 2 other volunteers from the SSO, and you decide which bingos you would like to work. Just think about it, by volunteering for 1 bingo, you can raise up to $1000 for the Sudbury Symphony!

USHERS

4 hours per concert

Ushering for the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra is a great way to support your symphony, plus, you get to see an orchestra concert for free! There are typically 6 concerts held every year. This year we have 2 repeated concerts for a total of 8 concerts. You will be paired with other SSO volunteers to hand out programs and take tickets at the entrances to the auditorium, as well as assist patrons to their seats.

STAGE CREW

2 hours per concert

Want a creative way to get some exercise? Volunteer for our stage crew! Every Thursday or Friday before a concert, you can help set up the stage risers for about an hour. Attend the concert for free, and afterwards your crew will take down all of the risers and put away the chairs and stands.

BILLETS

2-3 days per concert

Do you have “empty-nest syndrome”, or maybe just a spare bedroom? We are always in need of billets for our out-of-town musicians. Opening your home to a musician can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. All that is required is whipping together a few meals and providing a place for them to sleep for 2 or 3 nights, depending on the concert. As a first-time billet, you will receive a pair of complementary tickets to see your musician perform in the Symphony!

OFFICE & SPECIAL EVENTS SUPPORT

1+ hours per week

Want to experience what happens behind the scenes? From mail-outs to fundraising, photocopying to postering the city, it all starts at the Sudbury Symphony office. As an office volunteer, you will be an integral part of our team, ensuring that all of our concerts and fundraising events are a great success.

CREATIVE PLANNING COMMITTEE

3 hours per month

There are plenty of creative ways of helping the SSO. There are opportunities to sit on a sub-committee of the Board, which would have a lighter commitment obligation than being a full member, but a great way to be introduced to the inner workings of your Sudbury Symphony Orchestra. Current sub-committees include:

  • Fundraising and Marketing
  • Special Events
  • Strategic Planning
